Membership
TO OUR VALUED PATIENTS
After much difficult deliberation Olympic Internal Medicine is announcing a change to a Membership Model for our practice. We know that all of you pay costly premiums to health insurers while also paying more out-of-pocket each year and that further costs to access care seem excessive. We agree with you 100%.
Regrettably, the insurance industry and Medicare have made it impossible for us to remain independent of larger health entities, while providing professional medical services the way we feel is best for our patients, without making this change. For years our providers have gone to great lengths to resist the pressure to shorten visits or limit them to single issues and, until recently, have routinely provided non-reimbursed professional courtesies such as letters and behind-the-scenes paperwork. With ongoing diminishing reimbursement for providers, despite near-record inflation massively increasing the cost to remain in business, we have been forced to make this transition.
Membership practices are no longer unusual, particularly in other regions of the country. Our Membership Model involves a yearly membership fee of $250, which is completely separate from your current medical insurance, and will allow us to provide services beyond what medical insurance covers. Your insurance remains unchanged – we will continue to bill your insurance for covered services, and you are still responsible for copays and deductibles.
Our hope is that you agree there is significant value in having experienced physicians direct your care, who are independent of the large health corporations, who can address multiple issues in a single visit, and who are supported by helpful and capable office staff. Our goal is to continue providing you with excellent care as you have come to expect from us, in the best way we know how, for as long as we are able.
We acknowledge this new model may not be a good fit for everyone. If you elect not to participate, we ask that you work to identify a new primary care provider now, and we will provide refills and care for emergent issues for a short time while you establish, as well as transfer records upon request from them and with your approval.
We appreciate your support and know you will have questions. Please visit the membership page on our website for answers to frequently asked questions. You may also submit your questions to our practice via the patient portal or call our team members at (360) 377-3923. Our entire staff will help assist you through this transition.
Sincerely,
Dr. Dore, Dr. Gretch, Dr. Gross, Dr. Steele
